#MAIPItHappen Halftime Report

Man does time fly!

I'm already halfway through my internship at Mindshare and the Lunch & Learn sessions are whizzing by week after week. One of my goals this summer was to understand the fundamentals of strategy behind media planning, and I feel like I have accomplished this through my work on the American Express account as well as my group intern presentation for Seventh Generation. I can't wait to see where both of these projects go over the course of the next month, and hope that I have made a lasting impact on both teams.

Our MAIP Lab events are also coming and going in the blink of an eye. I've truly enjoyed listening to these experts teach us the foundation of what their firm does, as well as other guidelines they have for us rising professionals striving to become more than just interns. Some of my favorite learnings from the MAIP Labs at Publicis.Sapient, Horizon Media, 360i and Big Spaceship include:

  • Write down a list of everything you've learned and accomplished so that you can keep track of things you've done to pull from when asked about relevant experience by an interviewer.
  • Look at points of friction in today's interactions and ask how you can make it better.
  • Find an agency where you can be your full self at work.

Additionally, connecting with employees of these agencies has been my favorite part so far. They are so willing to take the time out of their day to help us through our internship journey and share insights on getting a full-time position in strategy. The fact that there are almost never entry-level roles in this field of work scares me, but their insightful experience and kind words of advice push me to be persistent and diligent in my job search efforts.

One day, I hope to pose the same example of what a mentor should be based on everything I've learned from these wonderful people.

Finally Becoming a MAIP 2018 Fellow

I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I'm a MAIP 2018 Fellow!

I cannot contain my excitement to thrive among some of the best rising talents in the dynamically diverse MAIP community, as well as contribute to the learning enrichment of other like-minded, creative whippersnappers.

I'm ready to begin my role at Mindshare as a Strategic Planning Intern — an opportunity to work for an agency heavily invested in implementing innovative and agile strategies to achieve sustainable growth for its clients. Whether that is brainstorming with my fellow colleagues on how best to position a new product in the consumer's mind, to finding that sweet spot of when, where, and how we should deliver an ad to the target customer at the "right" time, I can't wait to be a part of it all.

They say you have to want it more than you’re afraid of it, and I am so happy for all of the good things to come. MAIP is only the beginning. I’m just getting started...

Note: This post reflects my feelings and emotions before starting the Mindshare internship at the beginning of June 2018.
